Last night took the Snow Peas and some regular Peas and soaked them overnight. Tonight drained the water and rinsed. Also took 2 barrowloads of compost from the compost heap and spread it over the vege patch where the peas will go (hopefully) tomorrow.
As there is already leaks and onions in that section of the vege patch, compost was spread around them. Note... Onions survive the winter just fine. With luck they'll split some time in spring.

Why do you soak the peas? This was my first year to plant peas and they didn't do well. I started them in pots on the back porch in Feb. then transplanted them when they were about two inches high. They died before I got the first pod.

Peas come dehydrated and are large. The amount of water you need to get into them before they germinate is quite large and the amount of time it takes to do it is quite long.
To get enough water into them while not water-logging the soil I soak overnight.
I'm not sure why your peas would have died, perhaps the cold?
The vege-patch has half a dozen that were planted as seeds few months ago that have just stick their heads through the soil now.
